Spirulina flakes – cylinder 100g
CHF 47.00
The cylinder is our everyday format: 100 g of spirulina flakes in a compostable cardboard tube fitted with a shaker cap made from bio-based, biodegradable material. Leave it on the worktop, shake directly over the plate, close it again. If you want to buy Swiss spirulina and actually use it every day without reaching for a spoon or fighting with a bag, this is the practical choice.
Packaging designed to outlast nothing
The body of the cylinder is compostable cardboard and the shaker cap is made from a bio-based, biodegradable material — no petroleum-based plastic anywhere. The rigid tube also protects the flakes from being crushed far better than a pouch, which matters if you carry your spirulina to the office or take it travelling.
Where this spirulina comes from
It is produced in Saxon, in the Swiss canton of Valais, in greenhouse basins fed with Alpine water and heated by solar energy. Water quality is tested regularly in partnership with Agroscope. We harvest from April to October and rest the basins over winter.
The harvested biomass is filtered through fine cloth, vacuum-pressed, extruded into filaments, then dried at 40 °C — a deliberately low temperature chosen to avoid degrading the cells. The filaments are ground into flakes and filled into cylinders on the same site. Grown with no pesticides, no herbicides and no animal-derived inputs; GMO-free, non-irradiated, no additives whatsoever. Certified Marque Valais.

What is inside
At 60 g of protein per 100 g — close to 70 % of its energy content — spirulina is high in protein. It is also high in iron (48.8 mg per 100 g), high in magnesium (232 mg) and high in vitamin B2 (3.2 mg). The characteristic blue-green comes from its pigments, chlorophyll and phycocyanin.
Translated into real use: two turns of the shaker, roughly 3 g, give you about 1.8 g of protein and 1.5 mg of iron.
Daily serving
Count on 3 to 5 g a day, the equivalent of a teaspoon, and double it if you train hard or eat no meat. Mornings suit it well — at breakfast, or before exercise. Some take it all year, others in two-month courses; both approaches are reasonable.
One thing to remember: no high-temperature cooking. Sprinkle over a plated dish rather than into the pan.
The taste, and how to make it pleasant
The flavour is frankly vegetal with a marine edge. Flakes dissolve slowly, which softens the impression compared with powder. They work with fat and acidity — avocado, olive oil, lemon, yoghurt. On a salad, a warm soup or a bowl of hummus, the shaker does the job in two seconds. In a smoothie or a bircher, the taste nearly vanishes.
Bag or cylinder?
The contents are identical in both formats: the same 100 g of flakes from the same harvest. The difference is handling. The bag is the cheaper option and stores flat. The cylinder stands ready on the counter, protects the flakes from pressure and lets you dose one-handed — for two francs more. Many customers keep both: the cylinder in the kitchen, the bag as a refill in the cupboard.
Storage
Close the cap, keep the cylinder dry at room temperature, out of direct light and away from humidity. No refrigerator. A 100 g cylinder covers roughly a month at 3 g a day.
Dispatch
We prepare and ship from Saxon. Shipping within Switzerland is CHF 7.–, free above CHF 40.– per order, so this cylinder ships with no delivery charge. Europe is served at a CHF 14.50 flat rate, with customs duties and import taxes payable by the recipient. The stated lead time is up to 15 working days in both zones.
Precautions
Spirulina is a food; it replaces neither a varied, balanced diet nor a healthy lifestyle. Medical advice is recommended in cases of iron overload, kidney disease, anticoagulant treatment, pregnancy, breastfeeding or chronic illness. This nutritional information is not medical advice.
